Lau Pa Sat is open 24 hours a day, so no matter when hunger strikes, you can always come here to satisfy your cravings with great food. While enjoying the delicious dishes, the historic atmosphere of Lau Pa Sat naturally immerses you in Singapore’s history and traditional culture.

Originally built in the 19th century as Telok Ayer Market, Lau Pa Sat was later renamed and gazetted as a National Monument in 1973. Today, it sits in the heart of the financial district. Its distinctive octagonal structure, decorative cast-iron columns, and elegant central clock tower make it one of Singapore’s iconic landmarks and a major attraction for visitors.

After being transformed into a hawker centre, Lau Pa Sat offers a wide variety of authentic local delights, such as a plate of Hainanese chicken rice, a bowl of noodles, or oyster omelette. Beyond local food, there are also many other Asian stalls featuring cuisines from Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, and Korea. The food here is not only delicious but also very reasonably priced.

For those planning to visit Lau Pa Sat, it’s recommended to go after 7pm. The atmosphere in the morning and at night is completely different. After 7pm, the road behind Lau Pa Sat is closed to traffic and transforms into the famous Satay Street. At this time, all the vendors fire up their grills, and rows of fragrant skewers sizzle away, filling the entire street with irresistible aromas. In the open-air dining area, you can sit at plastic tables, enjoy an ice-cold beer, and feast on a variety of foods — a perfect way to end the day.
