Wukong’s 72 Transformations, is co-produced by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.

Hero, rebel, warrior, icon—who is the real Great Sage of Heaven? After returning from his legendary pilgrimage, Sun Wukong reflects on his many identities through his seventy-two transformations. At times rebellious and defiant, stirring chaos across the Three Realms; at times humbled by love and introspection in moments of defeat—his story mirrors the desires and anxieties of different eras.

Under the baton of conductor Quek Ling Kiong, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra presents Wukong’s multiverse through four musical movements. Written and directed by Benjamin Ho, with original music composed by Benjamin Lim Yi, the production blends puppetry with evocative visual imagery to reimagine a Sun Wukong who is both familiar and entirely new.
