One of this year’s featured productions is The Father (Le Père), written by Florian Zeller. The play won the 2014 Molière Award in France. Its film adaptation, The Father, received the Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor.
The story follows André, an elderly man living with Alzheimer’s disease, as he gradually loses his memory and sense of reality. Through his relationship with his daughter, the play explores love, confusion and emotional struggle.
The Chinese-language production is presented by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre and stars Jin Shijie and Tian Shui. With subtle and powerful performances, the production brings to life a world falling into disorder and the heartbreak within family bonds, delivering a deeply moving journey about love, loss and forgiveness.
