On February 6, the Chinese New Year Gathering Banquet organised by the Singapore Kwangtung Hui Kuan was grandly held at the Grand Hall of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations. Nearly 400 guests attended the event, including Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore; Mr Zhang Xumin, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore; Members of Parliament of Singapore; Ms Tan Pei Ling, Chief Executive of Business China; Mr Zeng Shisheng, Former Senior Minister of State for Education of Singapore; representatives from major business and trade associations in Singapore; as well as many overseas Chinese.

In his speech, Minister Chan Chun Sing affirmed the measures and efforts taken by China in combating the pneumonia outbreak. He reiterated Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s stance on the preventive measures against the outbreak, calling on the public not to panic due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, and not to develop discriminatory sentiments against the Chinese community because of the pandemic.
