Marina Barrage is not just a dam, but also a must-visit destination that combines leisure and recreation. While its primary function is to provide water storage and flood control for Singapore’s reservoirs, it is the open-air rooftop park that truly made it famous, attracting large numbers of visitors.

The park features a vast expanse of lush green grass, filled with refreshing greenery. You can choose to have a picnic here, and it’s also a perfect spot for couples on a date. Beyond picnics and dates, one of the main highlights is seeing kites of all shapes and sizes flying across the sky. As the area is close to the sea, the winds are especially strong, making it an ideal place for kite flying. Don’t have a kite? No worries — there are shops downstairs that sell them.

A friendly tip: if you plan to visit, it’s best to come after 6pm. Singapore’s daytime heat can be intense, with the blazing sun making it quite uncomfortable. By the evening (when the day’s heat has subsided), not only is it much more pleasant, but you’ll also be treated to a stunning sunset. Besides the sunset, many of Singapore’s iconic attractions — the bay, Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, and the CBD skyline — can all be seen from here at a glance.
